St. Theresa School Family Service Commitment Program

St. Paul says “There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one.To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

St. Theresa Catholic School is a wonderful place for our children to grow academically and spiritually.  We believe that parent involvement and participation in school activities is necessary to provide the many academic and extracurricular services offered by the school to our children and staff.

UPDATE – 3/20/17:  The end date for the current academic year for counting service hours has been changed to June 1, 2017 to allow parents/guardians to earn hours for Field Day and the Buddy Picnic.  The academic year for counting services for 2017/2018 will begin on June 2, 2017.

The Parents Volunteer Program has a new name!!!  We are now the STS Family Service Commitment Program.

Family Service Hours are required of each family enrolled at St. Theresa School.  Each family at St. Theresa School is required to complete 16 hours of family service.  The student obligation of service hours is not included in the family service requirement.  Families are encouraged to continue recording service throughout the school year, even beyond the 16 hours.

  • All service hours must be completed by parents, guardians, or close family members 16 years of age or older who are VIRTUS certified.
  • All service hours must be submitted online exclusively using “Track it Forward” and should be submitted on a monthly basis.
  • Family service hours may be acquired by volunteering for any St. Theresa School sponsored activity.  Parish activities such as teaching religious education, helping with the parish picnic, etc. did not count towards STS service hours.
  • There will be no automatic hours given for any position.  Each person must submit his or her actual service hours.
  • The academic year for counting service hours is from July 1, 2016 – June 1, 2017.  The academic year for counting service hours for the 2017/2018 will be from June 2, 2017 – May 31, 2018.
  • Service Commitments must be completed and entered online by June 1, 2017.
  • Families that fall short of the service-hour obligation are billed at a rate of $25 per hour (or part of) on June 2, 2017 for any outstanding unearned service hours.  This amount will be due no later than June 9, 2017.
  • Hours may only be submitted if you actually volunteered at the event (i.e.  If you are scheduled to volunteer at BINGO and BINGO is cancelled, you cannot submit service hours for this event).
  • Service hours may also by earn by parents/guardians assist with their child’s class in the Computer Lab/Library, Music Productions, Student Council Events, etc.   This list is not inclusive.  Throughout the year there will be other opportunities to earn service hours within the individual classrooms and activities.
  • Parents/guardians who are the moderator of a club, head scout leader, head coach of any St. Theresa School sport or assistant coach of any St. Theresa School sport may count their time for the Service Commitment Program.
  • Families who help out with a sport (line judge, score-keeper, etc.) may NOT count this time towards their service commitment since these activities are required for your son/daughter to participate in the sports/club/scout program.

If, however, your family is unable to participate, you may choose to buy out of the commitment for $25.00 per hour or $400 per family for the year but we are encouraging ALL families to participate at some level in the Family Service Commitment Program.  If you choose to buy out, please send a NON-REFUNDABLE CHECK to the office and indicate the payment reflects your family’s contribution toward our Family Service Commitment Program by June 1, 2017.
